I cannot use “screen rotation” anymore. It was working, but not now. I read the manual and it says to click apps > settings > display and wallpaper then turn on “screen rotation”. However my S7 shows “display” and “wallpaper” as two different settings. Neither of which have anything about screen rotation. I know it works somehow but after a lot of time, I cannot figure it out. Can someone help?

Can you make or receive calls? Mobile data use the same modem and antenna.

Can you enable mobile data? You may check with your phone company for the correct APN settings. Don’t mess up APN settings unless you know what you are doing.

Hi all, I had an old Galaxy before I got my s7 and it would tell me either though the phone speaker or though my head set if one of my contacts txt me or called me saying ” new message from so and so ” , or ” call from so and so ” . Is my S7 capable of doing this ?

I guess you were using some accessibility settings. Since Android Marshmallow update, Samsung simplified accessibility settings. You probably have to enable voice assistant to read all feedbacks. It’s a bit annoying.

Are you using the stock Samsung calendar or a third-party calendar app?

When you create an event, you have the option on how you will be notified. By default, it’s 10 mins in advance.

But if do not disturb is turned on, by default, only alarm is allowed. You need set it so that calendar events can bypass do not disturb.

Your need set wallpaper for lock screen. When you choose a picture as wallpaper, you have 3 options: for home screen only, for lock screen only and for both.

Anyway, chack your wallpaper settings. You may follow this guide https://gadgetguideonline.com/s7/galaxy-s7-online-manual/use-galaxy-s7-wallpapers-to-customize-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge/

Why oh why do we seem to go backwards with these phones? On my older Samsung, I could add numbers to contacts just by touching the number. Now, on this Nougat OS on my Samsung 7 Edge, they’ve taken that away and I don’t want to use an app – how stupid it was to take that away!! Also, can’t add numbers to Auto Reject like my old Samsung, either. Used to be able to just touch the number and a wonderful list came up with choices like Add to Contacts or Add to Auto Reject. Why on earth would they take away basic features like that – if this continues, this may be the end of me and Samsung! To take away features like that is just plain stupid and arrogant if you ask me!

As a consultant, I am always having to add recent calls to contacts, and my S5 did it brilliantly. The only workaround I’ve found is to initiate a call from the Recents list, immediately end the call, and then click the “Add to Contacts” button. It really is the little things that matter… like when you click a Notification that takes you within an app… say to a text message. When you click the back button, you exit the app instead of going back to what should be the previous screen, i.e. your list of text messages. While I do love my S8, it’s these “downgrades” and what would seem to be a complete lack of thorough testing of use cases that make me miss my old phone, as slow and useless as it had become.

In Recents list, you can tap the entry, then tap details, you can then find the add to contacts button in the bottom. Yes, it requires one more tap on S8.

For messages, it’s actually easier to add contacts. Open the message, to the menu/navigation button in top right, then you can find the add to contact button.

For message notifications, Android Nougat handle it like a widget. It is not a shortcut to the app. So you can access specific features of the app only.

Earlier Samsung version like S4 etc. had an useful feature of an Auto Call rejection List where you could build a list for auto calls rejection for phone numbers starting with or containing a certain group of numbers. For example you could reject all call from numbers starting with 140 etc.

I fail to find such facility in S7 Edge which can only take full numbers in the Block List.

Is there a way of doing it in S7 ?

There are some apps in the Play store with such features. But usually they may slow down the phone. Most of them are not free for this feature.

But in S7, you can turn on Identify unsaved number. It can block telemarketing calls more effectively.

        Thanks for your reply Simon.

Does ” Identify unsaved number” mean any number that is not in the contact list or something else ? Because if all unknown numbers are blocked then I may miss some calls that I shouldn’t miss ?

What I want to definitely block is telemarketing calls with a know pattern of numbers or numbers starting with ISD codes of certain countries known to send harmful calls. Others avoidable calls can be individually blocked.

        Regards !

Identify unsaved number does not block the number by default. But it can remind you whether it is a known telemarketing number based on their own database. It can be accurate in some regions. But it may fail to identify some in some regions.

Anyway, you my need a third-party app to get what you want. You may try Mr. Number, which has a free version.

There are some changes in the messaging app from S5 to S7. But most are positive and make the app faster.

The call log, by default, displays in the reverse chronological order. You can select from the list. What’s the problem with this feature.

Very likely you accidentally swipe from the the bottom left (where Phone app shortcut is located). If this happens, you will be directed to phone app after unlocking the phone. You can test it by swiping upwards from the “lock’ icon or even higher (up to the bottom of the date/time).

You can remove the phone app shortcut from the lock screen, if you really don’t need the shortcut.

You can remove the star for that contact in Contacts app. Open the contact, then you can tap the star icon.

Noise cancelling for calls are always on on Galaxy S7. The mic on the top actually is mainly for noise cancelling.

However, noise cancelling depends on the noise profile. Sometimes, it may not work as you expected.

If you are using a case or a cover, you need make sure the mic on the top is not blocked.

No, Galaxy S7 doesn’t have noise cancelling for music. Noise cancelling in S7 is for voice calls only.

You can get a noise cancelling earphone. For example Bose 25 is extremely good for both air travel and routine use. There are some cheaper ones at around $100-200 in Amazon. Please note, you net get one with “active noise cancelling”.

How can I keep my phone number? Changing from iPhone 4s to galaxy 7

    Reply
    • simon says

      April 6, 2016 at 9:55 am

Your phone number is assigned by your phone company. It has nothing to do with phones. But a few phone companies may require you to register the phone before using it on their networks. For most phone companies, you can just insert the SIM card into the new phone.

For your case, your iPhone 4s uses micro SIM card. Galaxy S7 requires smaller nano SIM card. You should exchange your old SIM card to a nano one from your phone company.

Although it’s possible to trim micro SIM card to nano SIM, it’s better to get an official one.

In Galaxy S7, actually you should NOT do anything. But you can check the setting in Phone app. Open phone app, tap MORE near top right, tap Settings. You can check voice mail settings. Please do NOT change any settings before checking with your carrier.

To access voicemail, tap and hold 1 in phone app.

If you are referring to the stock email app, the option for “Auto-advance” was removed for sometime already.

In Gmail app, you can still find the option to set it to advance to newer email, or older or the list.

When you open email app, you can always swipe down to sync email manually if global sync is off.

If global sync is on, you have to turn off auto sync in individual apps.

It’s not a good idea to turn off sync. Instead you should set update frequency in your apps.

What do you mean locked? If it’s locked by your carrier (because you get subsidy from the carrier), you cannot use other sim cards on the phone. You can use roam service. But it’s expensive.

Anyway, if your phone is locked by your carrier, you have to get another phone to use China sim cards.

Please note, although the phone is locked to your carrier in France, you can use other features except SIM card in other countries.

The languages available in Galaxy S7 depends on the region. If you purchase the phone locally, then the local language should be included. If you buy the phone from other regions, the Turkish language may be not available in the phone.
