I’m not finding any info online as to how to change the lock screen timeout setting. My lock screen times out in what feels like 3 seconds, barely giving me time to unlock it before the screen goes dark. I’d like to extend it to 10 seconds. Anyone know how? This would be a great thing to develop content for. It’s being asked on other sites and no answer seems to have been found.

I don’t think the lock screen timeout is configurable by the owner in galaxy s6. It should be about 5 seconds.

Most android phones share the similar duration.

If the screen is touched, it should not turn off. For most users, 5 seconds between taps should be long enough.

It should take less than 2 hours to charge galaxy s6 battery. It’s not necessary to keep the phone on the charger once battery is full (galaxy s6 will notify you it is charged. The led should also turn from red to blue if there are no other notifications. )

Probably not. Voicemail is not a frequently used feature for most Galaxy s6 owners, I guess. In some regions, some carriers may not include it in standard plans.

Yes, in Marshmallow, you cannot use fingerprint to unlock the phone after a reboot.

You can change lock screen security to swipe. Then reset the lock screen security.

You can also turn on Samsung’s find my mobile (settings – lock screen and security – find my mobile) on the phone. Then unlock the phone with find my mobile. It will reset the lock screen security to swipe when using find my mobile to unlock the phone. You may check this guide on using find my mobile to unlock your phone

It is compulsory to setup backup password when registering your fingerprints. There is no way to escape the step of setting backup password.

Please refer to this guide: https://gadgetguideonline.com/galaxys6/samsung-galaxy-s6-guides/how-to-unlock-samsung-galaxy-s6-and-s6-edge-if-you-forget-the-screen-lock-password-and-your-fingerprint-is-not-accepted-either/

Of course, as it is new, you can also reset the phone.

it depends on the cover. What case/cover are you using?

if you keep the cover open, will the screen turn off automatically?

Do you mean adding icons to home screen? If yes, in apps screen, tap and hold the app, you are automatically directed to home screen. Without releasing your finger, you can move to any location on the home screen. Once you find the ideal location, release your finger from the screen.

Samsung removed this feature in s6. You cannot sort apps as you did in previous phones. You can try to use app folders to manage apps.

If you really need this feature, you can try some third party launchers.

Do you mean in chrome browser? You can turn on password saving in settings. Open chrome browser, tap menu key (3 vertical dots on top right), then tap settings. You can find the option.

You can also sync the chrome settings on all your devices including pc,tablet and mobile phones.

You should backup your s6 before clearing the dialer storage. All you messages and call logs and specislcontact settings are saved there.

Anyway make sure you have a backup before clearing it.

It appears somebody paired to my new S6 Edge. There was a notification message (which disappeared when I clicked on it) that I was paired to something with the word “security” in the paired device name. In my S3, it was necessary to activate a ‘make visible to other devices’ setting to pair, which lasted only a couple of minutes. In the Edge, it always says “visible to other devices” and I cannot find a way to turn this off. How does one do this?

The new menu structure is nearly impossible to decipher. Seems like all computer device makers relish making as many changes as possible to each of their new products, so no one can operate them without hours of re-learning, instead of building on what we already know.

S6 edge should be visible only to paired devices. It is visible to new devices only when it’s scanning.

You can find all paired devices on settings – Bluetooth. You can unpair any of them by tapping the gear icon.

I think it’s limited by the storage available on your s6. Anyway, you can check the phone periodically to make sure the voice recording is on. If you use the pre-installed Samsung voice recorder, the LED should light and telling you whether it’s recording.

For important meetings, always test such tools before the meeting.

Ascending ringtone is carrier dependent. Unfortunately, Samsung does not offer the option to enable/disable this feature.

There used to be some apps to enable/disable ascending ringtone. But most does not work well with Lollipop 5.1.

Hello eveyone! Hope someone will have a solution different than factory reset! So, my kid was trying to unlock my S6 edge (with his fingerprint or something, I don’t know what exactly happened) and after that there is a message:”Unable to recognise your fingerprint. Enter your backup password to unlock the device”! Unfortunatelly, the backup password doesn’t work (probably I’m not entering the right one). I cannot unlock via google because wifi and mobile data are turned off.
Can anyone tell me, if there is a way to restore (somehow) my backup password to my e-mail, OR to turn on wifi or mobile data OR restore the fingerprint unlock (because I don’t have the opportunuty for fingerprint unlocking now)?
    Thanks….

There are no solutions for your problem. This is a security measure. If it’s easy to bypass, it doesn’t make sense.

Imagine the problem in this way, if your phone is lost, do you want other people to unlock it easily?

It usually means some apps prevent the phone from working normally.

You may backup your phone, and try a factory data reset. After reset, please do not install any third-party apps.

Of course, before factory reset, you may try clear cache partition to see whether the problem is solved.

Please also note, after factory data reset, you may require to activate the phone with your Google account that existed on the phone before reset. You should not change the account details for this Google account. Please read this guide on this anti-theft feature in Lollipop 5.1.

It sounds like due to a buggy third party app. You can verify this by rebooting there phone into safe mode. If the headup notification stops, it means it’s caused by some apps you installed. You need find the app and uninstall it. If you have no idea, you probably have to backup there phone and try a factory data reset.

Maybe someone has a disability of some sort which slows them down, maybe they are just busy multi-takers and the phone keeps turning off. The point of Linux/Android (for the most part) is CHOICE. If you want a 5s wait, more power to you, but a bunch of us want/need more time.

I had blue tooth turned on and put my phone near my computer and it downloaded all my favorite web sites to my contact page. It also doubled up all my phone contacts from another older phone that I needed to get some contacts from. I finally turned off blue tooth and watch what I put my phone next to. It’s a security problem if you leave blue tooth on and you are sitting in a room full of people. A real nuisance trying to delete the other data too. Be careful or you might get your contacts stolen. I really hate the new S6 Active.

It is probably not related to Bluetooth. Bluetooth should never transfer such files/info automatically. There are no known security concerns of Bluetooth on S6 up to now.

The contacts are probably synced through your Google account and/or Samsung account. The duplicated contacts cane also be from SIM card in the old phone.

Your bookmarks in Chrome on the laptop can be synced with Chrome browser on Android. It is NOT through Bluetooth, It is through Google servers.

My S6 constantly switches to military screen view when I tilt my phone. How do I turn the sensitivity down?

It should not be sensitive. The multiscreen requires you touch the screen physically. Tilting should not trigger multi screen. You may visit local Samsung service center to check these hardware if you calm easily reproduce the problem.

there are no other ways to unlock the phone.

as you forget your Google account, you even cannot reset the phone due to factory data reset protection in Lollipop 5.1.

Android by default doesn’t use recycle bin. You can find all installed apps in apps page. You can always add any apps and widgets to home screen. We have a detailed guide on this.

If you uninstalled the app, you can install it in Google play store. Just search for Google photos.

The connecting duration is set by your carrier’s network, not your phone. You have no control.

You can check with your carrier. A few (only a few) carriers may let you change the duration. Try your luck.

How you do reset your backup pin when you forget it? I used to use a pin to lock my screen, but I have since changed it to swipe to unlock. Since I do not have my backup password, and all 10 of my fingerprints seem not to work. I have yet been given the option to change password through Google, it simply tells me to try again in 60 minutes. I do not have Find My Mobile on my phone.. so I cannot unlock it that way either. I can use it since it is only locked by a swipe.. not a pin or pattern. But, I am tired of having my pocket dial my contacts…

When did it ask you to wait 60mins? It seems you updated there phone to android Marshmallow already. On Android Marshmallow, there is no backup password for fingerprint. You need set lock screen as PIN/password/pattern to use fingerprints. Please refer this guide https://gadgetguideonline.com/galaxys6/samsung-galaxy-s6-guides/changes-on-using-fingerprint-to-unlock-galaxy-s6-in-android-marshmallow-update/

You can still use widgets for any contacts. Under widgets, you can find 3 contact widgets for direct call, direct message and normal shortcut.

It depends on the app. You need to check with the app developer on how to migrate data for the app.

Just put your finger on the home button to unlock the phone. In Marshmallow, lock screen doesn’t allow you to unlock directly with pattern or pin or password. You need swipe once.

Very likely, it is the data saver in Android Nougat as explained in this guide.

If not, you can take a screenshot and share it in our Facebook page.

I have a Smsung S6 with a battery icon in upper right bar that has 3 angles, located in a triangular configuration. They look very similar to the recycling icon only without the arrow tips. Phone is acting funny (can’t receive calls) but charges properly/fully. Will send/receive texts if words only but fails if trying to send a picture. Cannot find this battery icon in any online list I’ve found of Samsung battery icons. Unsure if simply old battery where buying a new one will solve issues or is it a bigger problem? Verizon store not helpful. Thanks for all assistance
