  • S21 Galaxy - I can't get the Portrait - Color Point setting to actually capture the image shown on the screen with the 'color point' - the center of the photo in color and the surrounding areas in black/white... The screen image looks fine, but when captured and then viewed in 'gallery' the image is full color, no center color and b/w background. Contacted Samsung, they couldn't figure it out. Their last suggestion was to try a factory reset which I have not yet done.
Thoughts, solutions, anyone else having this or similar issue and how did you correct it?
    What am I missing??

    • When viewing the photo in the Gallery app, do you have the "Change background effect" button on the photo (near the button part of the photo)?

You can tap it to change and edit the background effects. You can even change to other effects.

      • Hi - thank you for your suggestion/input... there is an edit button (pencil looking icon) in the Gallery which allows for some changes but it is not what I was hoping for.

The Portrait - Color Point appears to make the center of the photo in color, and the rest of the image in black and white and blurred out, but when I take the photo, and then go to gallery, it appears as a regular full color photo, and with very little blurring to the background.

Shouldn't it save it to gallery as it is shown on the screen when the photo is taken?

        • It seems your photo was not taken in Portrait mode. For photos taken in Portrait mode, in the Gallery app, you should see a button of "Change background effect", as shown below. You can tap it to change the background effects.

  • Simon - thank you again for input/thoughts! My screen shows a slightly different version of your screen shots, and does not produce the 'change background effects' window...
I did figure out the issue though... I was trying to photograph flowers and not a human... It would show the center of the flowers in color and the surrounding in b/w, but wouldn't capture the image that way.
I finally tried the color point setting with a human portrait - and it worked! So the software is too smart and recognizes that a portrait is to be of a human, even if I do not!!
    Thanks again

    • Yes, if there are no faces detected, Galaxy S21 will not apply the effects and save the photo as a normal one.
