Unbox Galaxy S9: understand package contents in Galaxy S9 box and S9+ box

After unboxing Galaxy S9 or S9+, you need to understand the package contents in your Galaxy S9 box or S9+ box so that you can properly use them when needed.

The package contents in Galaxy S9 box, and in Galaxy S9+ box are identical except the phone.

Also, the Galaxy S9 package contents may slightly vary in different regions.

This Galaxy S9 guide shows you the contents of Galaxy S9 box and Galaxy S9+ box. It also explains how to use these items in the Galaxy S9 box.

What are the Galaxy S9 package contents in Galaxy S9 box and S9+ box?

You can find Galaxy S9 package contents in Galaxy S9 box and S9+ box as shown in the picture below.

They include (corresponding to the numbers  marked in the picture):

  1. The sealed box.
  2. The phone.
  3. Wall charger (adaptive charger, aka fast charger).

How to use the items included in Galaxy S9 package contents?

Galaxy S9 box (or Galaxy S9+ box)

Everything is in the box.

Some vendors in some regions may offer additional free accessories. But they should be not in the box.

You need to check and make sure the seal is not broken.

Galaxy S9 phone or S9+ phone

The phone should have some protective plastic films on all sides. You should remove them before using the phone.

In almost all regions, the camera lenses are also covered by the plastic film, which must be removed before you take any photos.

In some regions, Samsung does not offer a 1-to-1 exchange if the new phone has any problems.  They only offer repair services under warranty.

If this is the case in your region, you should power on the phone to test it before leaving the counter.

The new phone should have about 50% battery. It is enough for you to try the phone.

Wall charger

All Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with the adaptive wall charger (aka fast wall charger) for you to charge Galaxy S9 and S9+.

You can also purchase a wireless charging pad to charge Galaxy S9 and S9+ wirelessly. Please note, if high moisture is detected in the USB port in Galaxy S9 or S9+, you then cannot charge the phone through USB port until the moisture goes down.  In this case, you have to charge Galaxy S9 or S9+ with a wireless charging pad as explained on this page.

You may check this guide on how to charge Galaxy S9 battery properly.

USB cable

You can use the included USB cable to transfer data between Galaxy S9 (or S9+) and a PC (or other devices), as well as charge Galaxy S9 battery.

It is a standard USB-A (to be connected to the normal USB port in the PC or the wall charger) to USB-C cable (to be connected to the USB port in Galaxy S9 or S9+). When you use Samsung DeX Pad or DeX station, you also can use this cable to connect the DeX Station or DeX Pad to the wall charger.

USB connector

The USB connector is a USB to USB-C adapter. It makes it possible for your Galaxy S9 (or S9+) to connect to other USB-C devices.

For example, you can use the USB connector (and the USB cable) to connect your Galaxy S9 to the old smartphones with a USB-C port to transfer data directly as explained in this guide.

You can also directly attach an external USB drive and other USB accessories to Galaxy S9 with this USB connector.

So, don't lose this tiny gadget. It is very useful.

SIM card ejection pin

You can use this SIM card ejection PIN to eject the SIM card tray to add or remove SIM card and micro SD card.

Please read this Galaxy S9 SIM card guide on how to use SIM card in Galaxy S9 and S9.

If you got a dual-SIM version of Galaxy S9 and S9+, you may check this guide on how to use two SIM cards on Galaxy S9 and S9+.

To use micro SD card on Galaxy S9 or S9+, you may check this guide.

Earphone

Galaxy S9 and S9+ still offer the 3.5mm audio jack, which becomes a luxury in the flagship smartphones.

Galaxy S9 and S9+ also have very decent stereo speakers as explained in the top 10 new features of Galaxy S9.

The AKG earphone included in Galaxy S9 box offers decent audio quality. You probably have to fort about $50-$100 to get a similar earphone in the market. This headset works excellently with the adapt sound on Galaxy S9 and S9+.

Additional earbud cups

The default earbud cups in the AKG earphone is middle-sized (M).

If you feel it is too loose, you can choose the L (large) ones. If it is too tight, you may change to the S (small) ones.

    • SIM card is provided by the carrier (your phone company), not Samsung. You can use the phone without a SIM card. But if you need to make calls or use mobile data, you need to check with a local phone company.

  • Hello. I ordered a “new” Samsung S9 and there was no packaging or tape seal on the box. The Quick Reference Guide is missing. Is it possible this phone was refurbished and sold as new?

    • Where did you get it? You need to check with the seller. In most regions, there are few seal stickers around the box. But this depends on region.

In most regions, there is a quick start guide. Some local partner promotional materials may be included in the box as well. Again, this depends on the region.

You should buy new phones from reputable distributors.

  • Thank you for reply, Simon. I ordered directly from Verizon.. they had a recent promo and I upgraded by phone. When I questioned condition of box, a representative said at this time of year they have a lot of phones coming and going and it may have been used.(??) I’d rather not make payments for 2 years on a refurbished phone. Grr

    • Getting phones from carriers can be a bit tricky when you order online. It's better to go to the store.
