How to avoid mirrored photos in Galaxy S7 selfie (front camera)?

Why you get mirrored photos from Galaxy S7 front camera?

By default, when you take a selfie with the front camera in Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, you will get mirrored photos.

In other words, the photo saved in the phone is different from what you seen in the Galaxy S7 camera preview screen. It is flipped horizontally.

Such an implementation is very common in other smartphone front cameras as well.

Of course, just like other features, some users like it, some don’t.

Luckily, Samsung allows you to configure the camera settings so that you can avoid mirrored photos from Galaxy S7 front camera (if you want).

Even if you get mirrored photos, you can easily flip them in Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge.

How to avoid mirrored photos from Galaxy S7 front camera?

As mentioned, by default, Galaxy S7 or S7 edge front camera will save mirrored selfie.

To avoid mirrored photos from Galaxy S7 front camera, you may follow these steps.

Step 1: Start Camera appp.

There are many ways to start Camera app in Galaxy S7 and S7 edge:

Step 2: Switch to front camera

After launching camera app, you should be in the Galaxy S7 camera preview screen as shown below.

In the preview screen, tap camera switch button (in green box in the screenshot below) if rear camera is active.

Step 3: Enter camera settings and enable “Save pictures as previewed”.

Once front camera is active (i.e., you can see yourself in the preview screen), tap the settings icon as shown above.

In Camera settings page, you can find one entry “Save pictures as previewed” as shown above.

You can tap the switch to enable it.

If you cannot find this option, very likely, you forget to switch to front camera.

From now on, all your photos taken with front camera will be saved as what you seen in the preview screen, instead of mirrored photos (or flipped photos).

This setting is persistent. You only need to do this once.

How to edit (flip) mirrored photos in Galaxy S7 and S7 edge?

If you have some mirrored photos, you can easily flip them to normal in Gallery app.

Start Gallery app, open the photo.

Tap Edit as shown below.  If you cannot see the options, tap anywhere on the photo to callout the tools.

Tap Adjustment as shown below.

As shown above, in adjustment options page, tap Flip horiz to flip the mirrored photo horizontally.

Now you can see the flipped photo on the screen.

Tap Apply as shown above,  then tap Save  (not shown in the screenshot) to save the flipped photo, if you are happy with it.

Please note, the flipped photo is always saved as a new file and will not overwrite original photo.

  • Samsung DOESN'T work when I activated Save pics as Previewed, it still previews mirrored!!! It's a BOGUS fix, wasn't ALWAYS flipped on this Samsung S8 grrrrr

    • This setting doesn't change the preview. It will change the photos saved on the phone taken with the front camera. Did you check the saved photos?

  • Thumbsup to what Bob said. This fad with video and pictures from the selfiecam being mirrored ruins livestreams when you want to use the front facing camera to make sure the framing is correct.. others don't see us as mirrored images so it would be great if samsung could add the option to disable mirrored preview too.
It's now 2 models later and samsung still hasnt reslized this, forcing the makers of the stream-apps to flip the image .. (oh the joy when you then switch between front and back camera...)

    • There are many types of users and many different usage for the phone. Some may still want the mirrored ones. At least, Samsung phones give the option to use mirrored or not. Some camera apps don't have it at all.

  • Actually, the selfie is not mirrored. It is saved exactly as the camera sees it. What is mirrored is what is shown on the screen so that you can more easily process your own movement.

  • will this correct video too? with front camera? When I do a facebook live it everything is reversed on front facing camera? Will this setting fix video?

    • Yes, you can use this setting to avoid mirrored videos as well. It works for both photos and videos. You can test it easily.
