How to use Galaxy S6 notification reminder?

What is  Galaxy S6 notification reminder?

Normally, when you get a new message, or missed a call, Galaxy S6 will give you a notification in the notification panel. This alerts or reminds you that there are something new.

Most of the time, such notification messages are accompanied with the notification icon in the status bar. The LED, by default, will flash as well when the screen is off..

But the notification tone is played only once, by default, even if you don’t check the phone at all. Most Android phones are designed to work in this way.

Sometimes, you may want to be reminded that you have a new message or you need to do something until you read the message or check the item.

Samsung has a solution for this requirement for long time. In Galaxy S6 or S6 edge, if you want, you can be reminded again and again until you take the action. This is called Galaxy S6 notification reminder.

Galaxy S6 notification reminder allows you to get notified repeatedly until you read the message or check the items.

By default, Galaxy S6 notification reminder is turned off in almost all regions.

  • Galaxy S6 notification not working. Followed the easy procedure to set it, maybe works once when I set it again. Does any one have an answer before I return this phone?

    • What's exactly the problem?

Anyway, if you feel Galaxy S6 does not work for you as expected, it is better to return it.

  • I did all this, but where can you set the sound? You can't hear a vibration or hear the LED light... it says to set vibration, led, or sound for notification, but I don't see it.....help please!

    • Sound is always turned on if you turn on notification reminder.

The notification sound settings depend on individual apps. You can set the default notification tone in Settings--Sound and notifications --Ringtones and sounds--Default notification sound.

      • After many tech calls to Samsung, AT&T finally confessed, the one that comes with the phone does not work. Until they get to get around to fixing it, use must use another app. The recommended Easy Reminder, so far working. You'd think that Samsung would be more clear about the problem.

    • After many tech calls to Samsung, AT&T finally confessed, the one that comes with the phone does not work. Until they get to get around to fixing it, use must use another app. The AT&T recommended Easy Reminder, so far working. You’d think that Samsung would be more clear about the problem.

  • My message notification goes on and on forever, even though the notification reminder is off. Ive tried switching it on, and then off but it still plays forever

      • Yes, I have the same problem. I tested this out and did not like it, so I turned off the reminders. However, it still constantly vibrates.

        I have tried:
-turning the reminders on then back off
        -restarting the device

          • I have been using smart alert since I bought the phone. I tried it regardless and I still have the same issue. The LED light does not work at all when charging or reminders unless notification reminder is turned on, at which point it still vibrates every 60 seconds to remind me of a missed message.

          • The goal is to get the original settings back. I.e. red on charge, vibrate once with new message, flash blue every 15 seconds or so for missed messages.

          • Then, you do not need notification reminder. You can turn off LED indicator (under Settings--Sounds and notifications--LED indicator), wait a few mins, then turn it on again.

  • On my S6, the notification reminder, when turned ON, does not work with text messages. It does work with other apps such as Whatsapp. Any idea?

      • I tried to use the notification App that came with the phone. After much trying and calling Samsung customer support, I wanted to return my new S6 for a refund. AT&T finally told me that the default notification App will not do repeat notifications, and at that time there was no fix, only 3rd party Apps. Still none I found to do voice mail repeat notifications. Shocking Samsung pretends it will work and no fix I know of yet.

          • Can you tell me if the "default notification sound" can be disabled. I chose to have a different sound for each notification e.i. email, text, calendar etc... the sound that I chose for each application will sound once then revert to the default sound and ultimately changing it to one sound for all the applications.

            Frustrating! Can anyone please help!

  • Not exactly the same issue as mine. This is clear, Samsung has issues with the notification reminder on the Galaxy S6, but as I have found their Tech Support does not acknowledge it. AT&T told me when I went to return the phone for a refund.

  • By default my samsung galaxy s6 had a flashing light reminder when my screen was off for reminders about text messages, missed calls, voicemails, facebook, etc. I was looking for a way to get reminders about voicemails and stumbled upon the steps you show above. However, unlike before when I only had 10 reminders about voicemail, this alert goes on forever until I have a chance to read/listen to my messages. I want to go back to just having the light flash as a reminder when the screen is turned off......is that possible? I can't figure out a way to undo what I changed. When I keep the light notification "on", I still get the alert beep. When I turn the light flash reminder "off", it is off for everything. Any suggestions?

    • Not sure what you want. But you can always turn on flash notification in settings - accessibility - hearing.

Voicemail is a different story from others. All your voicemail messages are stored on your carrier's server, not on your phone. The voicemail notification is controlled by your carrier.

  • I have a S6 Active and I work in a noisy area. I need a continuous audible reminder for missed calls, unread text messages and voice messages not listened to. I have followed the set up instructions and with the default app it works maybe for a day. Used a third party app, Easy Reminder. Works good for everything but voicemail, still looking for a fix on that one.

  • My problem with the reminder is a little different, in that it worked for a couple of days. Now of course it doesn't work at all. Sounds like there is no solution, awesome.

    • Did you try to reboot the phone? Also, some task manager apps may block this feature. Did you install any of such apps?

  • I have a Samsung Galaxy Edge 6+ . If someone leaves me a voice mail message when the phone is turned off , i receive no notification of a pending voice mail message once I turn the phone on .

If someone leaves me a voice mail message when the phone is on , I do get a notification . Additionally , I will receive a notification of the voicemail message left for me when the phone was turned off .

Any idea why I will not get a notification of a pending voice mail message left for me when the phone is turned off and it is turned back on ?

Both Samsung & Sprint have not been able to resolve this issue for me.

    • Voicemail messages are saved and managed by your carrier, not the phone. The carrier's server should push a notification if there are any unread voice mail messages when you are connected to the network. You may have to wait a while after the phone is powered on.

A few carriers may stop pushing notifications for old messages if the device is offline for extended time.

      • Thanks. I realize it is saved on the server and not the phone. I never get any type of notification for as long as the phone is turned on. I can leave myself a voicemail , turn the phone on a couple of minutes later and never get a notification. Don't think it's a matter of it being an old message being deleted

If someone leaves a message when the phone is turned on , the server then pushes a notification for the first message from when the phone was turned off too. Wierd.

Samsung rep suggested downloadong Visual Voicemail App. Phone already has it. Sprint still has an open ticket for my problem. Must have spoken to at least 7 people at Sprint in the last week. Went to Sprint store yesterday. Tech support person spent 1/2. hour on the phone. Got nowhere. Frustrating. Thanks for your reply snyway. .

  • I have the same issues, some what resolved with visual voice mail. This is clear, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a glitch regarding notifications. Maybe fixing the glitch will require coordination the carriers, but why continue to ignore it? Samsung tech support pretends it does not exist. I post this trying to draw attention to the problem in hope Samsung will fix the glitch. You out there Samsung! why make us jump those these hoops for nothing!

  • I would like to turn off the feature that provides a message after a missed call. Effectively, it provides me with a message telling me that no-one got through to me. I can see this from the fact that I have a missed call. I don't want a message as well. Can anyone advise how to turn that off please?
    Thanks,
    TGW.

  • I will like to have few notifications like missed call, news, etc without sound. But will like to have reminders from google calendar with sound. Is it possible? Also as a next step I do not want sound from google calendar event but only from google calendar reminder. Is it doable?

    • It depends on apps. Most apps have its own notification control.

Google calendar does not offer such granular control.

  • I don't like the constant notifications, but if I turn it Off I don't get any notification at all. How can I set it to Once?

    • By default, you are notified once you get a notification. Notification is designed to notify you until you take action.

      • That's not happening Simon. When I turn off notification I get zero notification. I have tested this repeatedly. Thanks, though.

  • Hello, I have a samsung galaxy s6 edge and my issue is that the screen turns on whenever I receive a notification, of any kind. can anyone help me? thank you

  • Please really need some help here. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and for the life of me I cannot get the phone to send me notifications for S Planner. Nothing is working. I have notifications turned on wherever they are supposed to be but still nothing. So my calendar is pretty much useless for reminding me of anything that I have entered on it with regards to reminding me. The only thing that I can see is the S Planner is not showing up in the Notifications section of Settings. Which in itself is strange since it is a Samsung app. I really hope you can help me. If not, maybe a suggestion to a calendar app that works well with sending notification reminders. Thanks.

  • My phone is constantly vibrating !! It started suddenly i have my phone since abt 1 year but it started 1 week ago and i have almost everthg off !!and the notification reminder also !

    • If you put the phone on desk, does it vibrate?

You can try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

  • My issue is I would like to get the repeat notification sounds for the person that text me. Ex: I've assigned a ringtone and message alert to a person but when the reminder plays it's not the alert from that assigned tone. It's the notification alerts that plays. Most of the time if I don't look I'll think it's just an email coming through. Is there anyway to have the notification that is assigned to that particular person to play as a reminder?!
