    • You must pull out the SIM card tray to insert the SIM card for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. I don't think there is enough space for you to insert SIM card without pulling out the sim card tray.

If the SIM card tray is damaged, you need visit local Samsung service center to repair.

        • You should NOT try again. Visit local Samsung service center to get the card out. Otherwise, you will cause more damage to your galaxy s6.

You must put the sim card into the sim card tray. Galaxy S6 sim card tray can only fit a standard NanoSIM card. You need get the correct sim card from your carrier.

          • Simon says. It is possible to insert the sim in the tray and it get unseated and then stuck in the slot. My is now stuck how do you get it out. This is a really crappy design. The old slim slots were much better to deal with not this tray that the card may slip out of while inserting. So please stop telling us in is not possible.

        • I have had the same problem today, like an idiot i was too eager to look at my new phone i never read the instructions, here's how i got it out though.. put a stocking over end of vaccum hose and try sucking it out and between sucks use the little pin you get to try and slowly manipulate the card side to side gently toward you,it took me over an hour but i did it,lots of patience needed. Good Luck :)

  • Hello, i bought a new S6 but will be receiving the new nano SIM Card tomorrow. I tried powering on the phone without a SIM card but it won't power on at all. The blue LED is always on, but it will not actually power on. Does this mean you cannot start the phone without a SIM card inside?

    • You should be able to use galaxy S6 without SIM card.

If you cannot power on the phone, you can try to connect the phone to the charger for a while. Normally the new Galaxy S5 should have about 50-60% battery for you to test the phone.

If you still cannot power on the phone after holding he power button for more than 7 seconds, you may check with the vendor for a replacement (if applicable) or Samsung service center to check or repair.

Anyway, SIM card is not required to use the phone, Of Course, without a SIM card, you cannot use mobile network related features. But you can still use other features, wifi, Bluetooth, and most apps (just like a WiFi only tablet).

  • My first Galaxy, be gentle. I'm inserting the ejection pin into the hole, but the sim card slot isn't emerging. Is it supposed to pop out like a DVD slot, or am I doing something incorrectly? I ensured it was perpendicular...

    • You need insert the pin to the end, then the tray should pop out a bit. You then full it fully out to put the SIM card. Please note, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge use Nano-SIM card.

  • I just got the S6 and all was well up until 30 minutes. The touch screen is now unresponsive. Cant do anything with it. Why and how do I fix this?

    • What did you do on the phone? Did you change any settings?

I don't think there is a genetic answer such problems. It depends on the cause of the problem.

If it's caused by hardware problems, you have to repair it in Samsung service centre, or replace/return it if applicable (depending on local laws).

If it's caused by some apps you installed or some settings, you can reset your galaxy s6.

  • you will need to put a bit of pressure onto the pin before the sim slot will pop out. Push really hard and it should come out on it's own.

    • Yes, the sim card size is different. Galaxy s4 users MicroSIM, while S6 uses nanoSIM, which is even smaller.

A few carriers may have the 3-size-in-1 sim card, which you can use it as MiniSIM (big one), or microSIM or nanoSIM. In this case, big one can be converted (detach from different cut lines) to smaller one. The reverse is not true.

  • Where do you get an ejection pin from? Ive just bought the s6 but no idea what y-the ejection pin is!

  • Hi,

I am trying to get sim card out the slot without the hook thing it came thing. Is there another way of opening the sim card slot?

    • You should use the tool provided in the box unless you want to damage it.

If you really want to try, you can try some other strong and sharp (not too sharp) objects to do the job.

  • Bonjour je viens de recevoir le galaxy s6 ainsi que la nano sim
Impossible d'ouvrir le tiroir pour mettre la nano
J'insere la tige perpendiculairement mais rien ne se passe

  • cant get my s6 to connect to network, this is my second nano card...not happy

    • Did you try to reboot the phone? You should insert sim card only when the phone is powered off.

  • turns out they did not allocate the sim card properly...not the phone just people...all good

    • Thank you for the update. Sometimes, you need wait a few hours for the new SIM card to be activated.

    • You should backup your contacts to Samsung account or Google account. In Galaxy S6 offers both options. Sim card capacity is very limited and usually it only allows you to save phone number.

Anyway, it is NOT necessary to put sim card when you do a factory reset. Actually, factory reset doesn't change anything in the sim card.

To take out sim card from S6, you should power off the phone first. Don't take sim card our when phone is powered on.

Anyway, backup your Galaxy S6 before resetting.

    • Galaxy S6 uses nanoSIM, which is the smallest SIM card available today.

iPhone 5 and 6 use the identical size SIM card (nano SIM).

iPhone 4 uses bigger one (microSIM).

    • SIM card should be provided by your phone company, not by Samsung.

Please get the correct NanoSIM. Your phone company should know it if you tell them it is for s6.

  • I recently bought an S6 phone but I am having problems with the memory. Says large GB remaining but trying to download 10MB says insufficient memory space. What am I doing wrong?. Uninstalled and reinstalled but unable to download more than 3 appps such as WHATSAPP, Amazon Music and GoogleServices

    • When/how did you get the error message? What's the exact message? Did you check settings - storage?

  • yes, checked settings storage... even to take a picture message is the phone storage does not have enough space. please release some storage or insert a SD card. Current settings storage is "available" 10.52GB.

    • As asked previously, when and how did you get the error message? What’s the exact error message?

of course, you can also visit local Samsung service center to get help. This is a community site and it is hard to give recommendations without getting detailed info on the problem.

  • when trying to use camera error message is "the phone storage does not have enough space. please release some storage or insert a SD card".

To download message is "download failed - please delete items from your device and try again"

    Available storage is 11.06 GB

    • it seems some setting are messed up. You'd better visit local Samsung service center to check it.

if you want to try, you can backup all your phone and then try a factory data reset.

  • Micro SIM card was wrongly inserted without the tray and it got stuck. Not able to pull it out. Please let me know how to fix this

  • I inserted my s5 sim into s6 edge without tray .. it's stuck ... any ideas please ... feel really stupid

  • Yesterday bought a s6. sim tray ejected without a problem with pin. but when inserting the tray back in, mistakenly it was inserted the other way. now it is stucked. tried with the pin. but it remains stucked still. what should i do now?

    • I have the same problem. My disadvantage, is that my country does not have a Samsung service center. i forced it out, and sadly broke half of the sim holder. Still stuck inside... Any D.I.Y techniques i could try.

    • it depends. the previous owner can set SIM card lock that prevents you from changing the sim card.

Also if the phone is locked to certain carrier, you cannot use SIM card from other carriers.

  • I'm having issues with the sim card coming loose, and not being able to access my data without taking it out and reinserting. How do I stop this from happening again? It seems to be a reoccurring event.

      • No, I can make calls just fine, but web pages and apps that require internet access don't work. The person at t-mobile said that the card was just loose, but it keeps happening.

        • If you can make calls, then there are no problems with your sim card slot. Voice and data use the same sim card and connect to the same tower.

When you cannot connect to Internet, you can check the status on settings-about phone - status.

The problem can also be caused by some other apps or other settings. Did you install any third party task manager or antivirus apps on the phone?

  • My s6 is in sprint can i put a mexican sim when i go to mexico and take it out when when I get back and return to be sprint

    • It depends on network type of the Mexican carrier. Sprint is NOT using GSM. You need check the network type of the carrier.

  • I will be traveling to Italy with my S6 from Verizon and plan to get a SIM card there. What do I need to know about using a new SIM card (got the tray, insert and turn phone off instructions from previous posts)? Will I get a local phone number? Will my apps, settings, email, and contacts all remain?

    • First, Verizon phone probably cannot be used in Italy. Most European countries use different technology (GSM). Verizon is using CDMA. You'd better check the mobile network type.

If you just change SIM card, all you data and settings should still be there. But some apps are tired to phone number (e.g., whatsapp) may not function properly.

    • SIM card is issued by your phone company. You should check with your phone company.

Please note Galaxy S6 uses nano SIM.

  • My phone can't detect the sim card? It'll work for 20 minutes then all of the sudden tell me that I need to insert a sim card.

    • it could be caused by loose contact. did you trim the sim card by yourself? It is better to get the official nano SIM card from your carrier.

anyway, you should power off the phone, re-insert the SIM card.

    • You can use S6 without SIM cards. This will make it similar to many WiFi only tablet. You can still use WiFi, Bluetooth, ....

If you want to use it with SIM card, only nano SIM card can be put in the SIM card slot. SIM card with bigger size cannot be fit into the slot. If you fit such cards forcefully, the slot will be damaged.

  • crazy that we need a tool t oremove a sim card... I ssamsung really serious i have used your products for years never had a problem with a sim card falling out, my 10/1 system is perfect ,apar from the fact tha tyou havent been botheredto get someone ,apart from a geek. to try to work out which way iy should be inserted, Yu have pleny of room for a real diagram why not use it, but then again you have plenty orf room for serial numbers, products numbers to be legible in dim light without glasses whahy are they o small.. how cah u gave thge IQ to produce such wonderful technologies get lacj the basic street smarts to realise that you these frustrations are not user friendly,

    • For SIM card slot design, there are two options: one is to use spring to inject and load. But this will need a cover to avoid accident pressing. Some vendors use this design. Galaxy S6 and Note 5 used the other one. This design is for better looking. Yes, it is not as convenient as the other one.

For serial numbers and other info, I guess all vendors print it very tiny and you need a magnifier to read them. Actually, the font in Galaxy S6 back is not too small. Anyway, you can always check it in Settings--About phone.

  • I put the sim card tray the wrong way on my samsung galaxy s6.
What can I do to remove it?

    • Don't try it yourself. Visit local Samsung service center and ask them to remove it for you. If the slot is damaged, it may be not coveted by warranty.

  • Hi. Told by retailer I can use either micro or nano sim card for my new S6. Used micro sim to lead tray and insert, result: sim card stuck inside and not managing to insert tray with it and it thus was left out.
Phone is fully functioning: both calling function and smart phone functions.
Samsung repair centre said they can take card out, saying there is no guarantee that following the repair the motherboard might be found to be damaged, which will cost an additional gross charge.
I know they are saying that just to 'cover their back' just in case something goes wrong during thr repair, because if the phone is fully functioning now: does not that mean that if it fails to function following repair this would be actually caused by a mal-repair??

    • It's hard to say. You need trust the service centre if you ask them to check and repair. For repair work itself, your can check it when you collect the phone. In most regions, your have at least 7 days to test the phone after the repair.

      • The phone is fully functioning now: therefore there is no damage to the motherboard right now ( at least there is no damage that affects any of the phone functions). Having the service centre saying that they cannot guarantee that the phone would work following the repair means they are just covering their back for any mistake or any unprofessional repair done by them.
Do I not have the right to claim that? And do I not have the right to request a formal acknowledgment of the current phone status ( of full function) prior to commencement of repair, together with guaranteeing to return the phone to me with the same functionality?
As a technical professional, do you not agree?

        • You have to agree the terms sweet by service centre, not the other way around. Unfortunately, this is the reality.

I don't think anyone in service center will issue such statements.

  • i have inserted the SIM card but the phone did not recognize it and still saying that there is no sim card

  • Hi! This is my current S6 and I've had it for like a month or so. Apparently the SD card got damaged and I need to change it. Will there be any consequences from changing to a new SD card? I got a new one but I'm scared that I might lose my data or information or it'll lock me out of some app that have quite high security (like Lookout, the security app). Thanks!

  • Had this samsung galaxy 6 from boost mobile for over a year, randomly getting messages that my sim card is locked, then message that says invalid sim card. ive removed the card and inserted, rebooted the phone, bill is paid but little to no service and its nonstop now.

  • I have just received my s6, the sim card included by my service provider doesn't seem to fit? I am using the nano sim that they sent but although there is no problem getting the tray in and out without the sim it just doesn't seem to fit back in with the sim? I have followed the guide as it says but no luck at all - what am i doing something wrong??

    • SIM card size is standardized. If it is a nano SIM, it should fit. The metal part should facing downwards and you can then fit the card into slot 1 following the shape.

If it is micro SIM card, it should be too large. Do NOT push back the sim card tray if SIM card does not fit properly. Otherwise, you may cause damages to the slot and such damage may be not covered by warranty in some regions.

Anyway, check with your phone company. You can also visit local Samsung service center.

  • My SIM card that came with my Galaxy S6 will not fit into the phone with the SIM card tray. It seems to be too big for the tray. I cannot get to a Samsung store what can I do.
